The stone was processed, counter etched, new drawing added, some areas scraped and picked, and Jack did some acid-tint biting. Jack wanted to see very rich blacks and he was willing to allow some of the more delicate grays to fill in to achieve the effects he wanted.
Roger Bailey's personal reflection: I wish I could tell you what Jack was thinking when he put this image together. As his printer, I was not focusing on the image as a Still Life with Angels but rather as a lithograph with just about everything going on that could cause problems in terms of lithographic stability. He pushed; I bent.
It is the last lithograph we did together.
