Sondra made this portrait of Jack Beal in 1997, using a combination of observation and information from a photograph of Jack working on a drawing. Jack was right handed when Sondra drew his image onto the litho stone but by the time the edition was printed in 2002, Jack somehow had managed to shift the drawing tool to his left hand.

A Closer Look ... Jack

A detail from a print indicates Sondra drew with a #5 litho crayon for the lighter areas and details and used a #3 crayon for the heavier blacks.

Also in a detail from a print. Jack might actually have a litho crayon (also called a litho pencil) in his hand.
